Experiential Learning Commons
BHA designed the Experiential Learning Commons to provide state-of-the-art health science laboratory space. The first of three phases was recently completed: 10,000 SF of classroom and learning spaces, featuring a variety of simulation environments, allowing students to gain hands-on experience with high-functioning SIM robots. The labs include five individual patient exam rooms and an 800-SF nursing skills lab. The new addition also includes a Home Care Lab, designed to simulate the real world environment of patient care in a home setting. The Home Care Lab provides a realistic setting for Occupational Therapy students to gain a better understanding of the challenges of delivering care to patients with limited abilities. Water and fire suppression are interconnected through the adjoining structures. Construction in the occupied space was carefully coordinated to minimize disruption, downtime, noise, construction debris. Future phases will include more laboratory spaces, classrooms, meeting and debriefing rooms, and a cadaver lab. The facility was designed to LEED Silver standards.
