Buchart Horn Architects Project for Penn State University Receives LEED Certification
Penn State University’s West Campus Steam Services Building designed by Buchart Horn Architects was recently certified LEED by the United States Green Building Council. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building certification program promoting energy efficiency and waste reduction throughout the building cycle. The new West Campus Steam Services Building on Penn State University’s main campus is a notable landmark due to its prominent location, architectural details, and distinctive historic industrial surroundings.
The 33,264-SF, three-story building currently houses over 40 employees and features modern office space, meeting rooms, a training area, and shop space with specialized equipment. Ten large multi-story windows surrounding the main entrance lobby create a bright and welcoming environment, maximize the use of natural light in the building, and harmonize with the design of adjacent existing facilities.
BHA provided architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services for both the office and training areas, which offer flexible spaces for Penn State’s Steam and Office of the Physical Plant personnel. This energy-efficient project joins dozens of sustainable and LEED certified projects designed by our firm to enhance communities and reduce environmental impacts of building for future generations.
