BHA is thrilled to be chosen as the design team for the complete renovation of the historic Penn Market – just 2 blocks from our headquarters in the City of York. We’re excited to meet this challenge to revitalize and preserve this historic facility to ensure its service to our City guests, businesses, and the community for another 150 years.

BHA first completed a Capital Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study for the market more than a year ago; this, along with a survey completed by Buchart Horn, allowed for an extensive foundational background of the property, with insight into its unique challenges and opportunities.

Project Manager and Lead Architect, Danielle Stehman, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, has been involved at the committee level of Penn Market since 2015 and served to facilitate the acquisition of the property by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of York in order to reposition the market for a sustainable future. Working at the market as a young adult, then a frequent patron, volunteer, and neighborhood resident, Danielle’s desire if for the project to thrive, bridging several socio-demographically diverse communities. Danielle’s passion for the market and relationships with its vendors will prove to be an invaluable asset in programming, design, and construction administration while Penn Market continues to operate during the renovation, led by Danielle.

The renovated Penn Market will be a community nexus for urban agriculture; a cultural display of our diverse community; and source for all types of traditional and ethnic cuisine.
